How the state protects your deposits

The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan «On Guarantees for the Protection of Deposits in Banks» dated February 18, 2025, guarantees every depositor the return of up to 200 million soums per bank — but this applies only to deposits opened after the law took effect. Deposits opened earlier are covered by a different rule: the state guarantees them in full, with no amount limit.

An important detail: the guarantee is triggered only in one case — if the bank is liquidated. In everyday operations it isn’t needed, since the bank fulfills its obligations to depositors in full, backed by all of the bank’s assets.

Separately, on taxes for non-residents: under Articles 366 and 382 of the Tax Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, interest on bank deposits received by a non-resident individual is subject to personal income tax at a rate of 10%.
